Short Horror Story:
It was a cold, rainy night. Dark clouds hung over the village, and every flash of lightning made the trees look like twisted, living creatures. Just outside the village stood an old banyan tree. The elders often warned, "Never go near that tree after sunset. A spirit of the ghost realm is trapped there."
Ramanarayan, a well-known skeptic in the village, never believed such tales. To him, ghosts were nothing but superstition. That night, slightly drunk, he wandered to the banyan tree. The air suddenly turned colder, and the dry branches rustled without wind. From the mist, a faint figure slowly appeared. The figure spoke in a low, haunting voice: "I was once like you… a living man. But I worshipped ghosts and spirits. After death, I received the fate described in the Bhagavad Gita — rebirth in the ghost realm."
Ramanarayan froze as the spirit continued: "Lord Krishna told Arjuna — Those who worship the gods go to the gods; those who worship their ancestors go to the ancestor’s realm; those who worship spirits become spirits after death; but those who worship Me with devotion come to Me and are freed from birth and death forever."
Ramanarayan stammered, "I don’t believe in such things! "The spirit’s voice grew colder: "Belief does not change the truth. I laughed at these words too, and now… I have been bound to this tree for centuries, without release."Ramanarayan tried to run, but his legs felt rooted to the ground. The spirit came close, whispering: "Now you will stay with me… forever."
A sharp scream tore through the silence of the night. The next morning, villagers found Ramanarayan’s lifeless body under the banyan tree.
From that night onwards, two shadows could be seen standing beneath it — one old, and one new.
