Ghost of Shanta appearing in forest at night with glowing red eyes

Deep in West Bengal lies a forest where no one dares to enter. People say a woman once protected this land with magic—but was burned alive by greedy men. Since that day, her ghost haunts the trees, her scream still heard by those who wander too close. This is the story of Shanta—the protector who became the curse.

A Horror Story from West Bengal

In the deep forests of West Bengal, there is a quiet and mysterious place called Shanta’s Backcountry. Long ago, a woman named Shanta lived there. She was not an ordinary woman. She was wise, beautiful, and had deep knowledge of herbs and magic. People say she could even put someone to sleep with her powers!

Shanta loved the forest more than anything. She used to spend her days collecting herbs and praying to an old idol of a forest god in a small stone shrine. The god was so happy with her kindness and honesty that He blessed her with magical powers. She used those powers to help animals, protect the forest, and even save her people.

When Trouble Began...

One year, a big famine came. There was no food or water. Wild animals were dying, and villagers had nothing to eat. Everyone went to Shanta for help. She gave them food, medicine, and used her powers to help them grow crops. She became a hero in the eyes of the people. But some greedy businessmen from the city were jealous. They wanted to take over the forest and use the land to make money. But Shanta stood in their way. So they sent a local criminal named Raghav to remove her.

The Betrayal

Raghav went to the forest and warned Shanta:
“Leave this place or I will kill you!”
But Shanta refused. She said, “I will never let you harm this forest.”
Angry, Raghav spread lies in the village, saying Shanta used black magic to control people. He told the villagers she was dangerous. The villagers, scared and confused, turned against her.
One night, Raghav and his men dragged Shanta to the town square and demanded that she give up her powers. She refused again. In their madness, they burned her alive.
As she died, Shanta screamed:
Shanta cursed the village while burning alive in a ghostly fire
Even in death, I will protect this forest! Anyone who tries to destroy it will face my curse!” Her scream echoed through the forest. The next day, the trees looked darker, the air colder. People felt like the forest had changed forever.

Strange Things Happened...

After her death, villagers who had supported Raghav began to die mysteriously. Some went missing in the forest. Others were found frozen with fear. People started to see a woman in a white saree, floating near the forest shrine. Her eyes burned like fire. The air around her would turn ice cold. A smell of burning flesh followed her.

1998 Incident

In 1998, a group of young people went into the forest for fun. One of them was Aarti, a brave girl who didn’t believe in ghosts. They carried Lantern and laughed at the old village stories.
But as they reached the shrine, everything changed. Their Lantern started blinking. The air became freezing. And then… they saw her. Shanta’s ghost. Her eyes glowing, her saree floating, her hand raised toward them.
Aarti unconscious near haunted shrine after ghost encounter
Aarti screamed. The ghost came closer and everyone ran, leaving Aarti behind. The next day, she was found unconscious at the shrine’s gate. Her hair had turned white, and she never spoke clearly again. People say she saw the ghost of Shanta with her own eyes.

The Forest Today...

Even now, people avoid going near that part of the forest. They warn their children never to enter alone. On quiet nights, they say if you listen closely, you can still hear Shanta’s scream in the wind.
